Since launching BTBL in 1998, John Gillespie has been advising nonprofits, CEOs and business leaders on all levels of financial management solutions, from organizational and business development to issues involving cash flow, sales, account management and client services.
John's clients include over 201 pre-revenue to multi-billion dollar revenue companies, such as Barnes & Noble, Inc. and CCH, Inc. With over 32 years experience in control, treasury, and systems implementation and operating management, John's expertise encompasses significant financial, human capital and informational technology management. He has worked as the CFO and senior strategic advisor at four privately held entrepreneurial companies, in addition to a subsidiary of Mobil Oil.
From 1990-1997, John worked as the COO and CFO of Innovation Luggage, the dominant specialty luggage retail chain in the Northeast. He is currently the interim CFO for several start-up and emerging companies, and several nonprofits. He also sits on the board of directors for a nonprofit and serves as financial advisor for two additional nonprofits.
A graduate of Boston College with an MBA in Accounting and MIS, John also holds a BA in Communications from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Since 1990, he has been actively involved with Financial Executives International (FEI) at the national, regional and local levels. He is the national chairperson for FEI's National Committee on Member Career Services, a position he's held since July 2000, and was the President of the NJ FEI Chapter from 1999-2000. In addition, he was elected to the FEI's North Atlantic Regional Board from 2003-2005.
