According to a 2009 Johns Hopkins University study, more than two-thirds of organizations indicated that they have been “successful” or “very successful” in coping with the current fiscal crisis. This is consistent with their experience in prior recessions, during which nonprofits boosted employment while for-profit employment declined. Nonprofit employment grew during the last two recessions since 1990 by nearly 2.4 percent overall. The launch of Beyond the Bottom Line’s new search practice is timely with many predicting a similar trend that nonprofits have weathered the recession and are likely to expand their ranks in 2010.
